I imagine I am very politely driving Edward insane.

My eyes are still different; the minimal interaction I have had with others has been curtailed and stiff. I do a lot of writing and hunting now, and feel more...inhuman, than I have in some time.

Edward does what he can. I am grateful to him here, now, always. We are in Minnesota for no reason I can adequately discern - but it is somewhere different, Edward says, and I did promise him travel. He has a wandering soul sometimes. This may be good for him - I am unsure.

Regardless, I am here in the apartment we have rent by week and Edward is elsewhere.

I am bored.

Carlisle to all comers would appear asleep - sprawled across a low couch belly-down and eyes shut.

Except that appearances really aren't as deceiving to some. Especially from streets away. Even while watching hundreds of other things. It's a calm enough day all things considered. Not one of the worst ones, or best ones so far.

Edward skirted a patch of random sunshine walking along a row of buildings, not even pausing as he turned up the collar of his coat with a smooth, uncaring air to it. Cafe's and mechanics and insurance stores, all struck together with no rhyme or reason.

So very like the people who stood next to each other in his mind.

Carlisle can hear Edward approach the apartment, and still he doesn't really move. He's feeling the tiniest bit petulant today, and the couch isn't entirely uncomfortable.

A muffled "Hello" when Edward unlocks the door.

"It's threatening to start spring out there."

Is a much better comment than you haven't moved much.

"It'll threaten that in Minnesota until three weeks before the autumn."

Anything interesting out in the world?

Edward sat down on the arm of the couch closest to Carlisle's head.

"I passed a flier for the opening of a new museum."

"Something to think about for tonight," Carlisle hazards, shifting his head on the couch to stare down at one of Edward's shoes.

Carlisle never does all that well with moping.

Edward, on the other hand, would disagree. At over two months, Carlisle does it better than expected. Edward reached out and lightly stroked the blonde hair. Not with enough pressure to even part strands of his hair, but still there.

"It has been a while since you've pointed out my distinct lack of art education."

Carlisle can't smile at the touch. Right? He is supposed to be moping.

"You may be beyond all hope. Perhaps I have given up the ghost."

Carlisle rolls his body onto one side and then continues to lay on his back, eyes still closed and head canted backward to face Edward even without seeing him.

"Mrphf."

Edward let his fingers drift, skimming as the head turned. Across hair and the shell of an ear, toward the plain of a cheekbone toward the temple. Still with the same pressure.

"I don't believe you know how to give up."

You say the nicest things.

Eventually Carlisle's light eyelashes lift and his eyes focus on Edward, an eyebrow following suit.

"I'm sorry that I've been so completely unmanageable of late."

He stopped. It wasn't quite planned, nor was it a hesitation.
He leaned down and placed a kiss against the forehead beneath him.
Then returned, erantly as fast, to the position he'd been sitting in.

"If that were true, I wouldn't still be here."

"Grazie."

At length, Carlisle gathers himself to a sitting position, running a hand through his hair lightly as if it were out of place at any point all day. He stoops to pick up his journal that had been deposited underneath the couch Carlisle'd inhabited and starts wondering where in the world his pen got off to.

Edward leaned back against the couch, head tilting slightly as he watched Carlisle. A little more relaxed, his words coming both as common and curious. "More to write?"

"No, I don't think so. Just...trying to keep my things together."

And not use too many double entendres throughout the day.

Especially where meaning was so easily to hear.

"Unless occasion called for it."

"I am not good with messy."

"I think you managed well, considering."

The guardsman flashes across Carlisle's consciousness and Carlisle makes no comment to Edward's assertion.

"What is the museum?"

Or to it's phrasing.


"Small and local looking."

"Sounds perfectly fine. When did you want to go?"

"Evening is fine."

Given the possible sunshine and only getting in minutes ago.

'Fine' seems to be a theme.

Carlisle pushes off the couch with a grunt, pulling at his shirtsleeves to straighten them and he grabs his journal to cross the room to the desk and put them away.

Carlisle uses the mirror on the far wall more so than Edward on the whole - especially when Carlisle working. Lately he's taken to try and ignore it, ignore the eyes that aren't his own staring back.

He walks past the mirror, glancing up slightly.

Walks past it and walks back to stare.

"OhmyGod."

Edward simply slipped leisurely off the arm and across the cushions.

Carlisle's voice is too light for the disgruntled expression on his face to work.

"Why didn't you tell me? When did you notice?"

Carlisle goes back to staring at his gold eyes returned to him, powers having faded and sloughed off.

"Minute and half ago?" Discerningly.

Edward's head tilted, watching Carlisle.
